Slips and Falls by Kristina Johnson, PA-C

Happy New Year!  I can only hope that 2021 treats us better than 2020 did.  One is preventing slips and falls.

Here are some easy tips:
Check your surroundings - if there’s ice on the ground, put some sand or salt down
Walk slowly and with a short stride – this keeps your base more stable which helps your balance
Watch throw rugs – a lot of falls happen because people catch the end of a rug and trip
Turn on the light – yes, in the middle of the night it might be disturbing, BUT it’s important to see where you’re going. 
Pick up your feet – I know this is reminiscent of my mom, but it helps to not get caught on rugs or other lips on the ground
Clean up clutter – the less obstacles on the ground, the less chance you have for a trip
Stay Hydrated – it helps to keep your brain fresher and keeps you more alert!
