Joint Arthroscopy

At Orthopedic Specialists, our orthopedic surgeons specialize in joint arthroscopy (also known as joint “scoping”). Orthopedic Specialsits has been performing orthopedic surgery for over fifteen years. That means your procedure will be performed by a team whose experience is virtually unmatched in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and throughout the Midwest.

Joint arthroscopy is a surgical method in which an orthopedic surgeon uses a small lighted camera and miniature surgical tools to diagnose and/or repair joints from within, using several tiny incisions, rather than a single large one.

Arthroscopy can be used for a variety of orthopedic procedures, including:

  • Diagnosis of unexplained hip pain

  • Repair of torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee

  • Repair of torn meniscus in the knee

  • Diagnosis and repair of repetitive strain disorders in the wrist

  • Repair of torn rotator cuff

  • Removal of inflamed synovium (lining) of the knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and ankle

  • Release of carpal tunnel in hand

  • Repair of torn ligaments

  • Removal of loose bone or cartilage in knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle, and wrist

A minimally invasive alternative to traditional open surgery, “scoping,” as it’s sometimes known, can often be done on an outpatient basis. This means the patient typically returns home in a matter of hours and his or her recovery is reduced to just a few weeks, depending on the particular case.
